Why Alfajores?
Almost 7 years in Australia, and there’s one sweet thing from home I still miss like crazy: alfajores.
For me, alfajores aren't just a sweet treat. They take me straight back home.
Back to school recess, when an alfajor could make an ordinary day feel pretty bloody good. Back to family celebrations, when Mum or Grandma would make a batch and suddenly everyone had a reason to gather around the table.
And sometimes, there was the supermarket version — the kind you desperately wanted your parents to buy because, let's be honest, you weren't exactly going to say no to an alfajor. 😅
That feeling never really left.
Every time I eat one, I get a little hit of that same excitement. The kind of excitement you don't get from just eating something sweet.
And that's why I started making them.
I wanted to bring a little piece of that feeling from Latin America to the Sunshine Coast — and share something that means much more to me than just a biscuit, chocolate and dulce de leche.
Because alfajores can be whatever you need them to be.
☕ A little treat with your afternoon tea.
🎂 Something different to surprise your mate on their birthday.
🏆 A well-earned reward for the kids.
🤎 A gift for someone who deserves a little pick-me-up.
Or...
You can simply get a box because they're bloody delicious.
No special occasion required.
At Paper Boat, I make small batches of alfajores the way I remember them — fresh, generous, chocolatey and filled with plenty of dulce de leche.
I'm not just selling alfajores. I'm sharing a feeling that I've carried with me from home.
And hopefully, the first bite gives you a little taste of that feeling too.
